Every Word of God is Pure
Reformation
is the action or process of reforming an institution or practice, according to
Oxford Dictionary. Oxford’s second definition of reformation states as, a
16th-century movement for the reform of abuses in the Roman Church ending in
the establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches. What does the word “form” mean? As a noun, it
means in a particular way a thing exists. As a verb, it means bring together
parts or combine to create something. Therefore, to re-form is to go back to how
a particular way a thing exists and not corrupt the manner it was brought to
together and combined to create that one thing. Reformation is to go back and
take away corruption of the word of God.
Martin
Luther insisted that “the truth of scriptures comes first. After that is
accepted one may determine whether the words of men can be accepted as true.”[1] Martin Luther is not
insisting something that is of his own understanding or from his own intellect.
His words were based on scriptures. God’s word is pure and is a shield for them
who trust God. Paul instructed Timothy in the same manner, “All scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly
furnished unto all good works.” Martin Luther thoughts were directed by the
Holy Spirit to scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17) when he declared Sola Scriptura
in 1520.
“I
do not want to throw out all those more learned [than I], but Scripture alone
to reign, and not to interpret it by my own spirit or the spirit of any man,
but I want to understand it by itself and its spirit”[2]
What
did Jesus say about the word of God will be our shield if we trust in God? When
he prepared his disciples for the first minor commission (Matthew 10), he told
them that God will provide all their thoughts and words from their lips when
the disciples are brought before governors and kings and charged for Christ
sake. Jesus said it shall be given at the hour when needed. And God will speak
for them when they are in trouble or tested. God will speak for us. The Word of
God will be our Shield.
“But when they deliver you up, take
no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same
hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your
Father which speaketh in you.” Matthew 10:18-19
The reformation “movement” is God moving
men who believed the bible is the word of God and their believe was counted as
being faithful servants of God. And God used these men to take back the bible
and re-form it back to its ancient existence and take away all corrupt
practises that were put in place in churches by unfaithful men. Reformation
means God’s word is infallible, inerrant, incorruptible and it reigns faithful
men’s heart to pursue God’s will on earth.
The Holy Bible, the word of God starts
by God’s word to create all things. (“God said”) And it ends with apostle John’s
testimony that no man should add or take away the words of the bible. If any
man were to do so his name will be taken away from the book of life.
(Revelation 22:19) Let us always mediate on God’s word and God’s word will be a
lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. (psalm 119:105) That is our
blessed assurance.
In
Christ Love.
