Which is of God
Philippians 3:9 - And be found in him, not having mine own
righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of
Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Our righteousness in not by
our own works but is through the faith in Christ. Paul does not end with just
saying, that is all there is. He finishes the sentence by saying the
righteousness which is of God by faith. “Which is of God.” The Hebrew author
declares that Jesus is the author and finisher of our glorious faith. (Hebrews
12:2) The Hebrew author looks upon Jesus sees the glory of god when Jesus
endured the cross, despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of God
in heaven. The glorious faith of Jesus on his Father and the finished work of
redemption in complete obedience to God the Father brings wonderful joy to the
author. The faith that our Lord exhibited, exalted, exercised, and expressed
sets our mark to have a faith like Him on Him who is most able. The author and
finisher of our faith.
How do we
respond to his? We have God (Jesus the son of God) placing his complete faith
in God (God the father) as an example for us to follow. Jesus who claimed that
he is the “I am” from the old testament (John 8:58) is God eternal. God triune
and God almighty. God took on flesh so that he could dwell with us and show us
the glorious hope we can have in him by believing in him. Through the faith in
Christ the righteousness on God is imputed unto us for God’s glory to shine
through creation. That is why the chief end of man is to glorify God and be
completely satisfied in Him. (WCF, shorter catechism)
Fanny Crosby
knew that her faith in Christ leads her to God. She knew that her Jesus was the
author and finisher of her faith when she penned down the hymn, To God be the
Glory.
“O
come to the father, through Jesus the Son
And
give Him the glory, great things He hath done.”
